Minnesota Environmental Initiative
has been asked by the Cities of Minneapolis and Saint
Paul, the Blue Green Alliance, and the State of Minnesota
to convene a stakeholder process to design a partnership
model to implement strategies from the Mayors’ Initiative
on Green Manufacturing, the Green Jobs Task Force, and
other green economy initiatives. MEI’s process will
use a Work Group comprised of diverse representatives
from business, finance, labor, environmental, higher education,
workforce development, and state and city economic development
agencies to develop the recommendations for this process.
Louis Smith will chair the process and facilitate each
of the stakeholder group meetings. At the end of the process
MEI will prepare a report outlining the Work Group’s
recommended partnership-based structure to further develop
and support the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota’s
green economy.
To develop the partnership model, the Work Group will
review information in two areas:
- Gap analysis of green business finance, development
and policy tools at the city, state, private/venture
levels for urban core job creation and redevelopment
and throughout the State of Minnesota.
- Strategic economic development partnership models
that could produce sustainable and effective green
manufacturing initiatives for Minneapolis and St.
Paul and the State of Minnesota.
The process will begin in the fall of 2009 and conclude
by February 28, 2010. Prior to the Work Group's final
meeting, MEI will prepare a draft report of the Work Group’s
recommendations and host an online public comment period
to take comments for the Work Group. The Work Group will
review public comments and finalize their report in February
2010.
